Because sleep is an important part of our health and well-being, it’s imperative that we can get the right comfort level in the bedroom—the right mattress, the most comfortable sheets, and the right level of darkness in the room. That’s where the window treatment comes in. At Windows, Walls & More here in West Bloomfield, we can help you find the right treatment to meet your needs. See below for some tips, and be sure to speak with one of our representatives for more personalized advice.
Achieve the Right Level of Darkness in Your Room
Some people don’t mind if some light comes through their treatment—maybe they’re heavy sleepers and just zonk out no matter what. But some people want as much darkness as possible in the space. No matter your goals, pay attention to the fabric type of your window fashion. Contrary to what some people think, blackout and room-darkening are two different things. Blackout fabrics will block almost all light and offer the highest level of privacy and light conrol. Semi-opaque fabrics will darken a room, but do not necessarily completely eliminate light. Sheer fabrics used in Silhouette® Shadings will soften and filter light, but they’ll offer the least amount of darkening.
Options to Consider
Hunter Douglas makes a variety of shades to choose from in a variety of opacities from sheer to blackout. You can also add options such as the Duolite® feature to Vignette® Modern Roman Shades or Silhouette® Shadings. Duolite creates more versatility because it offers a light-filtering and a room-darkening fabric on the same shade, so you can control light and privacy even more. Duette® Honeycomb Shades with opaque fabric block out 99% of light. You can also add the LightLock™ technology feature, a set of side channels that trap and deflect light, which gives you complete darkness.
Complete the Look at the Window
No matter your choice of shade, you can always add coordinating drapery or side panels through the Design Studio™. This will add drama, dimension, texture, and depth while framing the window in an elegant way. You can find numerous styles, including pinch pleat, grommet, and ripplefold. And don’t forget the drapery hardware for the ultimate finishing touch.
