At Windows, Walls & More here in West Bloomfield, we’ve heard customers say that they feel more confident finding window treatments for smaller rooms than for larger ones because larger rooms can lack continuity. However, that need not be the case. In fact, we have a few suggestions for how to think about window treatments in a larger room. Check them out below, and be sure to speak with one of our representatives to see treatments in person or to get personalized ideas for your space.

How to Think About Large Rooms

Especially in newer homes, the “open concept” floorplan creates some large spaces. And though decorating those spaces (including finding the right window fashions) might seem tough, it’s actually very doable. Here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Tall Ceilings Are Best With Dark Colors. Dark fabrics on window treatments will alter the lighting in a room and create a cozier environment. For great fabric options, be sure to check out the Hunter Douglas Design Studio™.
  • Large Windows Bring in a Lot of Light. Frequently, larger spaces are designed with large windows, which therefore bring in lots of natural light. Warm colors on window treatments can complement that light. Good options include beiges, browns, grays, and natural wood (like wood shutters or woven wood blinds).
  • Lots of Windows Beg for Energy Efficiency. Cellular shades like Duette® Cellular Shades can help insulate the window, providing protection from any excessive heat from the sun as well as keeping outside air in and inside air out. These beauties help during hot days, and cold ones as well. Plus, with the Vertiglide™ mounting system, the honeycomb fabric can be flipped for vertical orientation, giving you even more flexibility in covering your windows.

Operating Systems

One of the most overlooked options when selecting window treatments is the operating systems. If your windows are high and hard to reach, consider PowerView® Motorization. If you have children or just don’t like the look of cords, consider LiteRise®. We have a wide variety of operating choices for you to select from.
