Improved Light Gap
Because of the way the clutch used to be designed, the fabric for roller shades was cut smaller than the window, leaving a light gap on the sides. However, Hunter Douglas, the innovator in window fashions, has fixed that. They developed a new, ultra-slim system called custom clutch. This changed and streamlined clutch allows the fabric of the shade to be cut larger for better coverage. Yes, there is still a small light gap on each side of the shade; however, it is minimal. The new design includes nine custom hardware colors to coordinate with the shade fabric. You can also upgrade to a designer metal bracket in pearl chrome or burnished chestnut for a more contemporary look.
Options for Mounting Your Roller Shade
You can mount the shade with fabric rolling off the back of the tube close to the glass. This will allow for more privacy and less light gap. To soften the look, you can add a valance. The other option is to have the fabric rolling off the front of the tube, away from the glass. With this option, you will have less privacy and more light leakage. This simple functionality combined with a classic look is just one of many reasons roller shades remain a popular choice in window treatments.
