What Window Treatments Bring to a Home

Vignette® Modern Roman Shades
Vignette® Modern Roman Shades

Don’t be fooled into thinking that window treatments are boring old things that sit in the window and just gather dust. On the contrary, because the window is often the first place the eye is drawn to, its covering becomes a main focal point in the room. At Windows, Walls & More serving Bloomfield Hills, our trained consultants will be happy to show you the impact your window treatment choices can have on your home.

Starting the Window Treatment Selection Process

  • When moving in to a home, treat the windows last. If you try to cover the windows before you furnish the room, you will inevitably over-treat the window. Once the furnishings are in place, if you feel like the window is missing something in its coverings, you can add them then.
  • Don’t rush in to color in your window treatments. If you’re interested in putting color on the window, get some fabric in the color that you’re considering, and hang it on the window for a couple of days. That way, you’ll have a chance to see how the light will react with that color in your room.
  • Look at the window and dress it like you’re framing a painting. Remember, the heavier the treatment, the harder it is for the eye to notice the other design elements in a room. The lighter or lesser the window treatment, the more freedom your eye has to enjoy all of the elements in the room.

Hunter Douglas Window Treatments

Work toward function first and then add other style elements like valances or cornices. Great Hunter Douglas window fashion options include Provenance® Woven Wood Blinds; Vignette® Modern Roman Shades; and Roller, Pleated, & Vertical Blinds. Or you could go with the Hunter Douglas Parkland™ hardwood blinds—their simplicity is wonderful. It gives the room privacy, great light control, and a feeling of space and helps create a focal point in the room.
