Blackout Shade Solutions From Hunter Douglas
Anything you put on a window will help block the light, but window fashions specifically designed for that task will do it better. Fabric type and color play a big role—sheer fabrics filter light, semi-opaque fabrics offer some privacy protection and some light filtering, and opaque fabrics block light the most. Great products to choose from include Vignette® Modern Roman Shades, which offer luxurious folds that help reduce incoming light. Roller shades work well too, especially if you choose a specific room-darkening fabric. And cellular shades, like Duette® Honeycomb Shades, give you the added benefit of insulating the window, helping to keep your energy costs down, even when it’s very hot outside.

But opaque fabrics and specific treatments won’t entirely block light on their own, so consider some additional solutions: for example, you can mount the treatment outside of the window frame instead of inside it or add drapery or side panels to catch that extra light. You can also add a room-darkening liner, available on most Hunter Douglas shades. Some Hunter Douglas shades also offer the Duolite® option, which lets you add a liner as a separate layer so that you can have light filtering during the day and nearly complete darkness at night. With the Duette® Honeycomb Shades products, you can also add the Duette® LightLock™ system, which absorbs light and prevents it from entering the room.
