There’s Still Time to Get Ready for the Holidays!
If you’ve been dragging your heels this fall but still want to have a holiday-ready home, you still have (a little) time! At Windows, Walls & More here in West Bloomfield, we’ve got a few tips for making your home into a cozy holiday haven, whether you have guests coming or you’re planning to staycation. Read on for some ideas!
Let Winter Reign
Whether you like it or not, winter is here, and it’s the time that people most associate with the holiday season. A wintery, mountainy, lodge-y feel can bring home the sense of, well, home at the holidays. Add rustic décor and mixed fabrics to bring in that cozy feel—think comfy accent pillows and throw blankets. If you’re buying something new, be sure to find varying textures and patterns to create an aura reminiscent of a mountain lodge.
Décor for Your Walls
Your walls can add a lot to the spirit of the space—and you don’t even have to go to far with it! Mix the kinds of art you add to the walls, by including holiday-specific pieces and day-to-day art. If you bring in new pieces, try to avoid reproductions you typically get at big box stores. Instead, consider adding an original piece or two. You don’t have to get outside of your price range, either—just check out your local coffee shop, community council for the arts, or local library to see if they are displaying and selling artwork made by local artisans who might be trying to break on to the scene. You can find a great piece or two at very reasonable prices.
Get the Light Right
A cozy winter scene can depend largely on the right lighting. Warm your room with dimmable LED lights, or find fun candles (either old-school match-lit candles or battery-powered, programmable flameless ones) to set the mood in the evenings. For daylight hours, let your window treatments help set the scene for your cozy winter retreat. Vignette® Modern Roman Shades by Hunter Douglas are available in numerous fabrics, colors, and textures. Made from two layers of fabric that diffuse light and create a warming glow, Sonnette Cellular Roller Shades act as insulation at the window, creating an energy-efficient barrier keeping outside air out and inside air in. Both of these products provide warmth and color; plus, they are safe for children and pets. Remember, there’s nothing more satisfying than coming home to a comfortable space. So, enjoy your holiday home this season, whether you’re sharing it with guests or just creating a cozy, warm space for yourself.
