These days, more and more people are recognizing the impact that plastic is having on our oceans. And now, Hunter Douglas is doing something about it. Removing Plastic From the Ocean

The world’s oceans have become a vast dumping ground for plastics, which, with winds and ocean currents, collect to become giant floating death traps for ocean life. To help ensure the sustainability of our oceans and the sea animals they house, Hunter Douglas partnered with Bionic®, a mission-driven materials-engineering company that has created programs for coastal recycling in developing countries. Through their recycling efforts, they’ve developed ways to turn ocean trash plastics into sustainable fabrics. Hunter Douglas asked Bionic to create a yarn from those wastes—that yarn is the key building block for the new GreenScreen® Sea-Tex™ fabrics, which are exclusively used for Designer Screen Shades.

About Designer Screen Shades

Designer Screen Shades help block harmful UV rays, which helps preserve your furniture and flooring. Plus, they provide privacy, view-through, and glare control while filtering natural sunlight. The openness level of screen shades affects the amount of light and privacy the shade provides—the lower the percentage, the tighter the weave. So, a 1% openness level will provide a more obscured view, while a 5% openness level will allow for more light and a clearer view. The GreenScreen Sea-Tex fabrics come in 3% openness.

Lift Systems

The right lift system is the cherry on top for any window treatment purchase. Some options from Hunter Douglas include the Custom Clutch system, which has a continuous beaded cord loop. Simply pull the cord to raise and lower the shade. This is the standard lifting system for these shades. You could also choose the UltraGlide® lift system, which has a single retractable cord that remains the same length whether you are raising or lowering your shades. The LightRise® lift system is completely cordless and allows you to operate the shade by simply lifting the bottom of the shade to raise it and pulling it down to lower. PowerView® Motorization is a wireless operating system that can be used with a PowerView® Pebble® remote or with your mobile device or tablet, even if you’re not at home.
