Pantone Color Trends 2021

The Pantone Color Institute—well known as the ultimate experts in all things color—has, for the past 22 years, identified a Color of the Year, which becomes influential in many verticals, from manufacturing to interior design. This year, in a rare but not unheard-of move, they’ve selected two colors to define 2021. At Windows, Walls & More here in West Bloomfield, we know how important color is to our customers, and we love to help them understand how color can impact their everyday lives. That’s why we’re proud to introduce this year’s colors, PANTONE Ultimate Gray and PANTONE Illuminating. Read on to get to know these influential colors!

Dark Gray and Bright Yellow

The color choices for this year are inspired by the current world order. “The Pantone Color of the Year reflects what is taking place in our global culture, expressing what people are looking for that color can hope to answer,” said Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute. “As society continues to recognize color as a critical form of communication, and a way to symbolize thoughts and ideas, many designers and brands are embracing the language of color to engage and connect.” The colors are a “marriage of strength and optimism” that combine warm and cool tones. The gray represents solid and dependable natural elements, such as pebbles on a beach, and the yellow, bright, cheerful, and vivacious, represents the solar power of the sun.

Using These Colors in Your Home Décor

You have unlimited possibilities in using these colors in your home. The dark gray is a great neutral foundation on walls, readying the space for the spirited lift the bright yellow provides. You could use upholstered items in either color to be focal points, and if you find appliances and lighting in yellow, you’ll undoubtedly have conversation pieces. Or add these colors through bedding, tableware, and accessories such as throw pillows and blankets. Another way to bring them into the home is through window fashions or coordinating side panels and drapery. Check out the Design Studio™ from Hunter Douglas for options, including Gray-wood or Storm Grays in Rebecca Atwood’s collection, Saffron in the Transcend collection, or Fresco in the Wilson collection.
