How to Keep Your Silhouette® Window Shades Looking Like New
Many of our customers want to know the best ways to clean their Hunter Douglas Silhouette window shades. At Windows, Walls & More here in West Bloomfield, we’re happy to share some cleaning tips.
Hunter Douglas Window Treatment Design
All Hunter Douglas window treatments are designed for easy care and cleaning. The fabric of the Silhouette shades has been treated with a proprietary process that optimally repels dust, soil, and stains. For everyday cleaning of your Silhouette window shadings, simply lightly dust with them with a gentle cloth or feather duster. For a deeper cleaning, try gently vacuuming your shades with the brush attachment that comes with most vacuums. To clean in between the vanes, use compressed air a hair dryer set on cool. If you need to spot-clean a specific area, use a soft cloth or sponge moistened with lukewarm water. If necessary, add mild detergent and gently blot the fabric. Never rub, and avoid creasing the shade’s fabric. If you do spot-clean your shade, that area may appear cleaner than the rest of the shade.
Additional Methods
We also recommend Professional ultrasonic cleaning, which is best for shades that are heavily soiled. The process includes dipping the shade into a tank of warm water and mild detergent and then applying sound waves to clean the fabric. Finally, you could try Injection/extraction cleaning system, in which a cleaning solution is injected into the fabric and then is immediately extracted as dirty solution. This service is usually done in the home, so there is no need to remove the shade from the window.
A Final Tip
If your shade gets wrinkled, you can steam the wrinkles out. A hand-held travel-size steamer that provides continuous steam works perfect.
