Get Your Home Springtime-Ready
We might still be getting little spurts of winter, but spring is really just around the corner! That means it’s time to prep homes for the season. At Windows, Walls & More here in West Bloomfield, we have a few things to consider as you start your springtime prep. Read on for more!
General Spring Cleaning
It’s a good time to tackle some of those big tasks, as well as those everyday chores you might have been neglecting. Clean out your garage—including getting rid of junk and gunk you’ve accumulated, whether it’s a broken sled or the road goop from your tires. Reorganize your basement or storage area. And be sure to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
Clear Your Gutters
Fall leaves, winter muck, tree debris, and everything in between can get caught in the gutters and downspouts, which can cause some problems if you let it fester. So now is the time to tackle it. Once you’ve cleared the foreign material from the gutters, be sure the downspouts send the water at least five feet from the structure of your home.
Dryer Lint
Even if you clean the lint from your dryer screen every load, it can still build up in your machine and in the ducts. Lint build-up like that can become a fire hazard, so it’s important to remove it. Simply disconnect the vent from the back of your machine and remove the lint with a dryer vent brush. Also be sure to head outside and brush the lint from the external dryer vent cover.
Window Love
Winter and just plain time can bring a lot of grime and gunk to your windows, impairing your view. Find the next warm day and clean both the inside and outside of the glass as well as the screens. While you’re at it, repair any holes in the screens or replace them if needed. You can also complete some maintenance on your window treatments. Dust blinds and shades, and vacuum treatments like Silhouette® using the brush attachment. Compressed air can clean out cellular shades such as Duette® Honeycomb Shades. If your aluminum or faux wood blinds (such as Everwood® Alternative Wood Blinds or Modern Precious Metals® Aluminum Blinds) are particularly grimy, you can remove them and clean them with lukewarm water in a bathtub or sink. Reinstall the treatment while it’s still damp, and lower it to let it completely dry. And be sure to contact one of our specialists if you need entirely new treatments.
