Custom Roman Shades for Your Home

Design Studio™ Roman Shades & Drapery Panels

Roman Shades are traditional and classic, but when you design them custom, you can actually add some twists that make them uniquely yours and something a little elevated. In fact, through the Hunter Douglas Design Studio™, you can create Roman Shades that offer contemporary twists to match any décor. Read on to learn more!

The Design Studio

Offering numerous fabrics, colors, and patterns, the Design Studio is where you can craft a truly unique treatment that will fit your décor and style needs to a T. Create a product that adds drama, depth, and style. And if you aren’t a designer yourself, don’t worry—the experts at Hunter Douglas offer suggestions for coordinating colors, patterns, textures, and tones. They also suggest contrasts with color or patterns, to bring out an accent color in the room, to highlight a color from a patterned undertreatment, or to add a color that you just love. And you’ll find curated hardware and accessories, which will give your window treatment a fully rounded look. Plus, you can add other options like a lining, a valance or side panels, or additional coordinating fabric so you can create complementary finishing touches like throw pillows.

Designing Roman Shades

Roman Shades in the Design Studio are available in three different looks. You can choose the most traditional style, the flat fold, which has no horizontal seams across the front; they’re simply one big piece of fabric that lies flat when lowered and creates folds when raised. If you go with the flat fold, your best bet is fabrics with large, bold patterns or stripes. Or you could choose the batten front option, which adds a contemporary twist, with horizontal pleats (or battens, also known as tunnels) that add dimension and visual interest. Batten front shades do best with solid or textured fabrics. Finally, you could choose the batten back variation, which has the battens in the back, creating a tailored look when lowered and offering traditionally defined folds when raised. These shades are great for contemporary or transitional décor and are well-suited to solid fabrics or subtle patterns or textures.
