Blocking Side Light With Custom Window Coverings
If you’re like many Windows, Walls & More customers here in West Bloomfield, you have a room or two you’d like to keep as dark as possible—whether it’s a bedroom, a nursery, or a media room, darkness is essential. And even with the right treatment and fabric opacity, there still could be light that enters from the sides. Luckily, there are solutions that can help reduce that light and give you the darkness you’re looking for. Check out a few suggestions below.
Outside Mount Shades
Many times, the light gaps exist because, if the treatment were cut exactly to the window frame, if it’s mounted inside, it will rub against the frame and become frayed. Instead, choose outside mount, which allows you cover the expanse of the window entirely. You can mount the treatment on, outside of, or above the window frame, allowing the covering to block the light gaps (although a little bit of glow might still come through there). As a couple of bonuses, outside mount helps the room seem taller, and when you raise the treatment, you’ll have a completely unobstructed view through your window.
Layer It Up With Custom Drapes
Another effective way to deal with light gaps can also enhance your space. Layering with side panels will bring depth and dimension to the room, and you’ll create a look that’s uniquely yours while matching the style of the room through your choice of fabric design and color. Block the Gap With Side Channels
Hunter Douglas has crafted a great solution for the light gap on Duette® Cellular Shades: The LightLock® innovation. This product is U-shaped side channels that fit on the window frame and absorb or reflect almost all of the light that would otherwise come through the gap. If LightLock isn’t for you, however, you can also find light-blocking strips at a big box store. These strips are L-shaped PVC designed to mount on the window frame and help cut back that extra side light.
