Adding Seasonality to Your Home Décor

Designer Roller Shades

If you find yourself getting bored with your home’s décor, consider rotating it! At Windows, Walls & More serving West Bloomfield, we have a few easy ways to change up your look without having to do too much, all to result in something exciting every season.

Seasonal Transformation

One of the best parts about rotating your décor seasonally is that you both transform your home and bring in an element of nature: as things change outside, they’ll also be changing inside. In the fall, use warm colors and natural elements that incorporate the external transformation and add a sense of warmth as temperatures start to drop. In winter, use softer textures and lighting to give the idea of comfort and refuge. In springtime, use brighter colors and floral arrangements to illuminate the idea of new growth. As for summer, you could consider lighter fabrics to reflect the vitality outside.

Integrating Consumables

Consumables make a great decorative element—they let you express your flair. In spring and summer, use fresh flowers, potted herbs, and bowls of fruit to bring an atmosphere of life and growth. For autumn, use mini pumpkins and gourds as well as changing leaves to bring in earth tones and textures that reflect the outside changes. In winter, put out a bowl of citrus fruit to brighten the space.

Incorporate Scents

Our memories can be strongly evoked by scent, and some scents very clearly reflect different seasons. You can easily bring in scent through essential oils or scented candles. Consider the following: Cinnamon and clove are associated with autumn, while pine, cedarwood, and peppermint are frequently tied to winter. For spring, floral and citrus scents are a strong tie, and summer is all about the bliss of freedom, so coconut or “ocean breeze” scents work well.

Choosing Window Treatments

Because window treatments are more permanent than a rotating display, it’s best to find something that will complement the changing décor. It’s a good idea to use neutral colors, especially if you add strong pops of seasonal color. Hunter Douglas Designer Roller Shades offer a clean, minimal design that will work well with any external change. Silhouette® Sheer Shades are designed with an adjustable S-shaped vane that helps diffuse light beautifully and offers excellent view-through to the changing seasons outside.
