Adding Color to a Space with Interior Design

Using Color in Design
Using Color in Design

Perhaps you’ve glanced around and wondered how to perk up your room. Or maybe you’re just ready for something new in general. Either way, color could be your answer. And it doesn’t have to be daunting to approach. At Windows, Walls & More here in West Bloomfield, we’ve got a few tips for how to think about color and add it to your space. Check them out below!

Some Approaches to Consider

Color sets a powerful tone in a room, but you can’t necessarily go wrong with it as long as you have a plan (and if you do go wrong, it should be fairly easy to set right). Usually color choice is based on personal preference, but you also need to consider how you use that color. Here ae some approaches to consider:

  • Neutral isn’t boring. If you’re not ready—or don’t want—to jump straight don’t make the mistake of thinking that neutral tones are boring. Quite the opposite: Neutral color palettes are timeless and classic and bring serenity to the room. Window treatments like Duette® Cellular Shades are offered in numerous neutral colors to enhance a room.
  • Go for bold! If, however, you do want to jump right into the bold pool, go for it! Find one surface area or a primary focal point in the space and add your bold color or pattern. Then complement that boldness throughout the room, such as in furniture, décor, and window fashions—custom drapes from the Hunter Douglas Design Studio™ can help you land on just the right color.
  • Texture is like another color. Having texture in a room is much like having color in the room—it brings depth and dimension and draws the eye. You can add these textures in décor, through furnishings like end tables, and with your window treatments. Provenance® Woven Wood Shades are created from bamboo, woods, reeds, and grasses and are available in over 80 material and color options.
  • Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize. Use color in art, décor, and accessories. Use custom upholstery to plus-up an old sofa or use your window fashions as the focal point—with the Fabric by the Yard™ program from Hunter Douglas, many window treatment fabrics are available for purchase separately, so you can create finishing touches like throw pillows that will perfectly match your window.
